International Cooperation
During earlier phases the team helped MOI join the Global Geodynamics Project (GGP) as a member. The team continues to fulfil GGP membership obligations on behalf of MOI and, with its authorisation, exchanges and analyses data with countries operating superconducting gravimeters and collaborates on related observation projects.
Currently underway is "Absolute Gravity of the Taiwanese Orogen (AGTO)", a Taiwan-France cooperation project that monitors orogenic deformation along the South Cross-Island Highway. Beginning in summer 2006, French geophysicists and geologists worked with the team from National Cheng Kung University westwards, across the Central Mountain Range to the Hualien-Taitung coast and Green Island, selecting observation sites and installing concrete observation piers.
At LOGG the length unit (metre) and time unit (second) of the absolute gravimeter are traceable to the National Measurement Laboratory. Participation in the BIPM-organised International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters (ICAG) every four years provides an effective assessment of observation accuracy.
Drawing on years of accumulated gravity-measurement expertise, the team supports government agencies in planning and executing international surveying activities, thereby fulfilling Taiwan's responsibilities as a member of the international community. To date, academic organisations from many countries have engaged in cooperative research with the team.
